An Unforgettable Teacher

Enthusiastic, Youthful PhD Stimulated His Students.

On a somnolent Sunday afternoon, the unfamiliar male voice on the phone inquired "Are you the William Edge who was attending Columbia at the outbreak of World War Two?" Affirmative. "I was on the faculty at the time, and you were one of my students. You may not remember me, but my name is Ken Hechler."

Not remember Ken Hechler? Not remembering Nicholar Murray Butler would be about the same level of likelihood, for every student he had.

Ken W. Hechler, PhD, Instructor in Government, to be more precise. A sharp first impression was his extreme youth; he wa only 26, and he had already been on the faculty for two years, with a teaching fellowship and as a lecturer, while completing his doctorate.
